I zipped up to Westport for the centennial Buller A&P show. They had all the usual competitions for livestock, and a demonstration of hand shearing.
Of course they had woodchopping competitions as well.
For the ladies there were other competitions.
So far so normal.
But you haven’t seen the children’s competitions! They had a pet contest, and the winner was a very cute set of 3 puppies.
But the show is much more than competitions. There are lots of things on show and for sale.
The Westland Milk tent had yoghurt tasting and gave me a packet of Greek yoghurt powder. Unexpectedly there was a German family selling baked goods. It was almost good as Rischart. It was a tough choice so I went for something I had never tried.
It’s a yeast-risen cake with an almond topping. I think it should actually have a custard filling but this one had cream.
Being the coast there was a display of Harley-Davidson type motorcycles, muscle cars and hot rods.
Being the centennial they had some history displays.
Community groups also had little displays.
The community groups were very well represented – Lions, Rotary, Fire Service (including the Fire Cadets), DOC, St John, Women’s Institute, Surf Lifesaving, and Land SAR.
